Teaching- The Dream
The Southwest teaches us of Dreaming. The Elders teach of the Dream on many levels. There are the dreams that we all dream of personal achievement and fulfillment. There is the collective dream that we all share as human beings, for example that I have created this web page and that you are reading it. There is the Creation dream that birthed all of these dreams, the Universe's dream.
Dreaming is very powerful. We think of dreaming as something we do when we sleep, yet this is only one limited notion of dreaming. Every creative thought, or imagined idea, is also a dream. Many of these dreams we have wide awake. Everyone has daydreamed. Many of the things we do with our lives begin as a dream. We dream of becoming involved in relationships, of starting careers, of creating art, of traveling. These dreams can inspire us to the action needed to make them manifest.
Dreaming can also be used in healing. It is taught that each of us was born with a Sacred Dream, something that we came here to fulfill. It is taught that we almost immediately forget this dream at birth, and that our life's journey is about reclaiming this dream.
Carl Jung once wrote that one's vocation was not what one did for a living necessarily, but rather "what one's soul was called to do". Jung stated that to deny your vocation was to deny the growth of your own soul. The Southwest is that part of our circle of being that calls us to reclaim our soul's vocation.
The Southwest is one of the four non-Cardinal directions. The others are the Northwest, the Northeast and the Southeast. These four directions teach us of the "As Above" or spiritual self that we marry to the "So Below" physical life we live.
